Defining Home Performance, tom rostron company

March 24, 2016

We talk a lot about home performance here at The Tom Rostron Company, but we’ve never really taken a moment to really define what it is for our customers in Monmouth and Ocean counties. To us, it’s second nature, and to many homeowners, it seems intuitive enough—home performance is how well your home performs, right? The fact is, this is just one piece of the puzzle and doesn’t explain the finer points of home performance, such as embracing the principles of building science and the “whole home” approach.

To start, let’s take a look at how your home operates.

Your Home is a System

The major basic tenet of home performance comes down to how the home is viewed. In essence, the home is a complex amalgamation of systems that work in tandem with one another to create energy efficiency and consistent comfort levels. Take your heating and cooling systems, for example, which both serve to make your home a more comfortable place to live. If air sealing and insulation are lacking in your attic, basement or other parts of the home, however, your heating and cooling system will have to work harder than it should to keep the home comfortable, thus negatively affecting home performance.

When you view the home as a system, each and every factor must be looked at closely and any issues fixed so that the home can operate at peak performance.

Certified Home Performance Contractors Get Results

At Tom Rostron, we pride ourselves in our deep understanding of the principles of building science and home performance. Tom Rostron has the education and experience it takes to improve efficiency in any home, including your own, and we’ll work with your budget to ensure that you’re not stressed by the financial aspects of improving home performance.

Healthier homes require less energy to run, which means you can expect reduced energy costs, better indoor air quality and an uptick in home comfort by making the recommended upgrades once we’ve evaluated your home via our energy audit process. Many homeowners are shocked to see that they notice immediate differences once the work has been completed, especially when air sealing and insulation are improved.

The home is a complex system, and you need a contractor who understands it—Tom Rostron is ready to take your home to the next level.
